FORMS OF RELIEF

REFUGEE PROTECTION - available to individuals who are outside the U.S.

ASYLUM - available to those at the border (or point of entry), or in the U.S

WITHHOLDING OF REMOVAL - available to those at the border (or point of entry), or in the U.S.

PROTECTION AGAINST TORTURE - prevents the expulsion or return of a potential torture victim to any place where he or she may face torture; and available to persons at the U.S. border.

TEMPORARY PROTECTED STATUS (TPS) - issued by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). TPS are protected from being removed to a country due to armed conflict, natural disaster, or other condition which would prevent a safe return.
